Arm lifts, also known as brachioplasty, involve removal of the excess skin and fat of the arms. The surgery reshapes the under portion of the upper arm, from the armpit region to the elbow. Adults with significant upper arm skin laxity are the most common candidates as well as those who have lost significant amounts of weight, leaving them with extra skin. This procedure will leave a scar on the inner-back-side of the upper arm from the armpit to the elbow. Most patients considering this procedure feel that having a permanent scar is an acceptable “trade off” for having smaller and firmer upper arms.
In some cases, a short-scar brachioplasty, or minibrachioplasty, can achieve much of the improvement of a traditional brachioplasty while concealing the scars within the confines of a short-sleeve shirt or blouse. As noted below, Dr. Leber has experience with both types of arm lifts.
