The type of breast reconstruction
procedure available to you depends
on your medical situation, overall
health, breast shape and size, lifestyle,
and personal preferences. Women with
small or medium sized breasts are
the best candidates for breast reconstruction.
Breast reconstruction can be accomplished
by the use of a breast
implant with an expander, or your
own tissues (a tissue flap),
or a combination of the two.
The goal of breast reconstruction
is to recreate symmetric natural-appearing
breasts. Three essential goals when
creating symmetry in the reconstructed
breast are:
The inframammary fold
Ptosis, or the natural teardrop
shape of the breast
Projection, or the fullness of the
breast
Below, you will find photos of expander
and implant breast reconstruction
patients as well as
photos of T.R.A.M. flap breast reconstruction
patients, as labeled.
